On Episode 36 of NEDAS Live!, Ilissa Miller, President of NEDAS and founder and CEO of iMiller Public Relations (iMPR), sat down with Nabeel Mahmood, Co-Founder and CEO of the Nomad Futurist Foundation, an organization dedicated to demystifying the digital infrastructure industry and cultivating a passion for it amongst the next generation. The Podcast explores Mahmood’s journey and the transformative moments that led him to start the Nomad Futurist Foundation.

Like many others, Nabeel Mahmood fell into the digital infrastructure industry entirely by accident. He initially quit his C++ minor in college 10 minutes into his first lecture, only to find himself in love with the industry later on. Eventually, a series of life-altering events – including surviving two heart attacks – made him reconsider his purpose in life, leading him to quit his corporate job, relocate to Hawaii and develop his concept of the “Nomad Futurist”.

The concept took shape during a conversation with Mahmood’s close friend and eventual Nomad Futurist partner, Phil Koblence. As they participated in countless industry events, they noticed a scarcity of young professionals. Upon discussing this, they realized there was a need to shed light on and demystify a seemingly complex industry to attract a new generation of workers from all backgrounds. The “Nomad Futurist” refers to the capacity of technology to liberate people from geographical constraints, allowing them to work from anywhere via access to data and connectivity.

The Nomad Futurist Foundation was eventually established as a platform to offer an online curriculum to educate children, underserved communities and transitioning professionals on the digital infrastructure industry. The foundation plans to provide free, state-of-the-art educational programs and resources to enhance people’s understanding of the industry and prepare them to enter the workforce. The new online academy is set to launch by year’s end and will put the tools for success into the hands of the next generation.

During this conversation, Mahmood reflected on his experiences and how they influenced the creation and direction of the Nomad Futurist Foundation. His own fortunate opportunities made him aware of the barriers stopping many from learning about the industry. The Nomad Futurist Foundation hopes to level this playing field, extend opportunities and light the way for the next generation.
