Next Up: Certification to be sought for Denver, Phoenix, Salt Lake City and Las Vegas

Herndon, VA – January 16, 2014 – EdgeConneX®, a data center provider specializing in content hosting at the edge of the network, today announced it has entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Open-IX (OIX) to certify its Houston, TX Edge Data Center (EDC), along with the intent to certify additional data centers in Denver, Phoenix, Salt Lake City and Las Vegas markets by the end of Q1 2014.

EdgeConneX’s Edge Data Center in Houston is served by multiple network providers including Zayo, Alpheus and Level 3. The Houston EDC is built out to support and deliver high-bandwidth solutions commonly required by content providers and Content Delivery Networks (CDNs). Edge Data Centers optimize the delivery of any content, anywhere, instantly – and are the closest access point to many of the region’s end consumers of content.

“Open-IX’s recent announcement to begin certification of North American data centers and Internet exchanges propelled EdgeConneX to announce its commitment and intent to adhere to the technical and operational standards defined by today’s leading industry professionals,” comments Clint Heiden, Chief Commercial Officer of EdgeConneX. “While EdgeConneX executes on an aggressive roll-out of our network Edge Data Centers, we are excited to be one of the first providers to design our data centers and implement the OIX standards required by today’s content delivery networks and service providers.”

In order to become an OIX-certified data center or Internet Exchange Point (IXP), companies must first initiate the process by submitting an application. The OIX executive board reviews each application and once accepted, data centers and IXPs are required to complete a compliance report to adhere to OIX technical requirements. EdgeConneX will begin implementing best practices and making submissions of its EDC facilities for review to meet certifications, starting with Houston, TX and followed by an additional four locations within the first quarter of 2014.
